St. Louis City SC has a player.

With the Major League Soccer expansion team’s debut still more than a year away, the team signed a 23-year-old left back from Bosnia and Herzegovina, Selmir Pidro in the just-completed international transfer window. Pidro will finish his season with his current club, FK Sarajevo in Bosnia, and then join the team this July. Though City doesn't begin MLS play until the 2023 season, it will have a developmental squad running in 2022.

It's the first signing announced by the team, though the team is not calling Pidro its first player, only its first player signed for 2022. Pidro is signed through 2025. The deal still needs Pidro to get his international transfer certificate, a medical check and a work authorization.

Pidro has played two games for the Bosnian national team, including one against the United States in December. He debuted with FK Sarajevo, the top club in Bosnia and Herzegovina, in 2018, and the team went on to win both the league and cup championships that season. Sarajevo was also league champion in 2019-20 and won the cup in 20-21.

He had played with various Bosnian youth teams before making his international debut against Costa Rica in March of 2021.

“Pidro is a very hard-working player that not only fits well with our style of play but is a young player with significant experience,” said Lutz Pfannenstiel, City’s sporting director in a statement released by the team. “He’s been on our radar for a while now and we’re confident that he can have immediate impact in the league. He has a high ceiling and we’re excited to help him grow as a player and as an individual.”
